In my quest to constantly improve on my food photography I picked up an assignment from Rivera Public Relations to photograph three peach-inspired dishes at three different restaurants yesterday. According to Rivera, “recently a study revealed that extracts found in peaches and plums have been shown to kill breast cancer cells while not hurting other cells. Rivera PR is working with the stone fruit farmers and the California Tree Fruit Agreement to spread the word about these findings. From August 15th – September 15th, twenty San Francisco restaurants have joined the fight to participate in “Peaches + Plum Dining Month.” $1 of selected menu items featuring peaches and/or plums will benefit The Breast Cancer Site, which funds free mammograms, and has emerged as a leader in the fight to detect and prevent breast cancer.”

.Photographed Scott Campbell aka DJ Cams last week in the Mission district of San Francisco. He requested a simple background so I used a white fence found via google earth and a couple spots my buddy Anthony found walking around and saving pics of spots to his smart phone. The last picture is Scott in my clunker which looks sleeker than it actually is. All lit with a beauty dish.

Went to LA with my good buddy and killer photographer Anthony Kurtz a lil while back. We played around with his new pocket wizards for some high speed flash shots (that’s him in them), photographed his friend in her car, then drove out to the Mojave desert in the middle of the night. We arrived just after midnight in a small town off the freeway. “Population 12″, according to the gas station attendant. After wriggling under an eight foot fence, we found ourselves in a graveyard of hundreds of skeletal remains of rusty old cars, illuminated by a 7/8th full moon. Fun times for sure!

I did some food photos for Bengali Sweets and Chaat cafe in Sunnyvale. I was pretty stoked to have met my buddy Craig Lee a few days prior to get some lighting tips, which surely helped. The challenge for the shoot was that the cafe really felt like it was summer in India and the sauces and sweets on the dishes only lasted so long. Thanks for my buddy and fellow photog Kimihiro for lending me a hand!
Most of photos were lit by bouncing a speedlight off of the white wall to the left and using another speedlight with a grid to add highlights. I also used a large white reflector to fill the shadows.
